Well-known
both as an author and as a painter. After graduating
from Hangzhou First Normal School, he studied music
and art in Japan before returning to China in 1922
to teach in Shanghai, and later to work as an editor
at the Kaiming Press. It was at this time that his
works—paintings, cartoons, art criticism, general
essays—began to be published. He continued teaching
and publishing, and after 1949 held various
political posts, including that of chairman of the
Shanghai Artists Association |
